22–24 June 2021

To build and strengthen transatlantic alliances between subnational actors, civil society organisations, and young change agents, adelphi and the German Federal Foreign Office convened a three-day, high-level conference. The virtual conference picked up momentum built at the Transatlantic Climate Bridge Online Forum in March. This year’s conference aimed to build a strengthened network of transatlantic cooperation, showing new perspectives of climate policy transformation concerning foreign trade, geostrategy, as well as social policy. Participants presented approaches to transatlantic cooperation and discussed new initiatives.

4 November 2021, 16:00-17:30 BST (Glasgow); 17:00-18:30 CEST (Berlin); 12:00-13:00 EST (Washington, DC)

This event is part of the Transatlantic Climate Bridge of the German Ministry for Environment and Federal Foreign Office and a collaboration by adelphi, Stiftung 2°, and We Mean Business. In anticipation of the 2022 German G7 Presidency, representatives from business, government, and civil society congregated to discuss the following questions:

  • What is the outlook for transatlantic climate cooperation in 2022? (We will touch on progress made in recent weeks, including the First Mover’s Coalition, the Global Methane Pledge, and the US-EU carbon-based sectoral agreement on steel and aluminum trade.)
  • What should Germany prioritize during its G7 presidency in 2022? What do businesses expect from the G7 presidency?
  • How can businesses on both sides of the Atlantic cooperate to drive decarbonization?
  • What climate-related challenges do German/European companies face in the US and vice versa? What support do businesses need from government in order to hit their increasingly ambitious climate targets?
